Research overview

Our focus is developing nanomedicine solutions for peripheral neuropathies, including inflammatory neuropathies (Guillain-Barre syndrome), inherited neuropathies (Charcot Marie Tooth disease), diabetic neuropathy, and chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy.

We are grateful for funding from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the American Heart Association, and the Charcot Marie Tooth Research Foundation.

Experimental workflow

We isolate leukocyte plasma membrane vesicles with nitrogen cavitation and differential centrifugation.
We coat polymeric nanoparticles with isolated plasma membrane vesicles.

Our bath sonicator with recirculating chiller might be the most important piece of equipment in the lab!
Covalently attached quantum dots allow for precise evaluation of NP fate in sciatic nerve cross sections

This figure shows two sciatic nerve cross sections with CD31-labeled vasculature, DAPI+ nuclei, and QD525-labeled nanoparticles. On the left, inflammation is minimal. On the right, nerves are inflamed, enabling nanoparticle entry.
